Application and DonationsIn North America we often take for granted the ease of obtaining resources needed for field work. In many of our neighboring islands of the Caribbean those resources are difficult to acquire, if not impossible. Although we share migrant bird population with areas such as the Dominican Republic, Cuba and the Bahamas, monitoring and management strategies are much better funded in the US. Migratory birds do not recognize political boundaries; they follow the path embedded in their genes, migrating south to the wintering grounds, returning north to the breeding grounds with numerous stopover sites in between. If we want to protect these birds and have them return each spring, we need to recognize the need for international partnerships. Optics for the Tropics, Inc. mission is to match bird conservation resources with research and education needs in the Caribbean. Currently we are offering Eagle Optic Audibon Equinox, 10x42, waterproof, fog proof binoculars. In the future we would like to also address other needs for field research such as field guides, reference material and possibly camping gear. Donations:If you would like to make a donation of field equipment or funds to acquire optics, complete a donation form. You may designate a specific project or Caribbean island for your donation. We will do our best to accommodate. Applications:Research programs in search of equipment may review guidelines and submit a proposal using the provided form. |
